A Little Country in the City

Do you have a definite viewpoint when it comes to decor?  I'm a little embarassed to admit that I am too easily swayed.  I see the beautiful minimalist interiors of Scandinavian homes and think, "Oh I must be more tidy, streamlined, minimalist, I need more...more...more white!"  Then I see the rustic charm of a farmhouse and think, "Oh I need roosters and rust and chipped furniture!"  So I was out and about and saw a gigantic harvest basket sitting upside down on a pile of junk by the side of the road.  In a blink of an eye, I picked it up and quick marched it to the car.  Never mind that I live in the middle of a large, metropolitan city, I knew I wanted it.  Back home, I realized that it was the perfect storage for extra quilts and cushions.

Even better, it's the perfect repository for fluffy white towels.

It doesn't matter that I'm miles away from the nearest fruit orchard or farmhouse. Or that I'm surrounded by suave downtown hipsters.

I'm very happy to have a little country in the city.

I'm linking up with French Country Cottage, A Stroll Thru Life, Type A Decorating, My Romantic Home, Apron Thrift Girl, The Thrifty GrooveCoastal Charm, Cozy Home Scenes.

I love how you love it all. Sounds like me, no wonder my house is a hodge-podge of mixed styles, I love it all! I love your middle of the city basket far remove from the orchards. You found a great use for it…

I love that basket. I have a large one like that too that I found at an antique market of five dollars. So many great ways to use it.

I don't think you have to settle on any one look. Currently, I live with my parents in their home. The upstairs where I live is shabby chic because that's what I like, and the downstairs is more traditional because that's what my mom likes. Our house my be a bit of a hodge podge to other people, but we like it.

If your looks is what you like, don't worry about what other people think. You're the one who has to look at it every day.

I perfonally love the whites and the rustic look of your basket. I've never been brave enough to take something off a a junk pile, so I admire those of you who do. Maybe one day I'll stop to get something I want.

I'm your newest follower and wanted to invite you to my "Your Cozy Home" blog party that opens tonight. You're welcome to post this or anything else that shows how you make your house cozy. If interested, there are more details on my blog.

I know what you mean about vacillating between styles. I do the same thing. I think the word for us is eclectic!

Yikes, I just read my last comment. Note to self: Get off the computer when you are tired! I guess you got my drift anyway, I hope!

I really do love your style and just wanted to thank you for joining my party. Hope to see you again next week!

That's lovely! I am like you, too. It has taken me a long time to know what "my" style really is. It takes time.
Your basket looks marvelous with all of the pretty white things in it.

That was a very useful curb find. I love it when something neat can come home and fits in. Love it with white.

I absolutely have same attitude like you when it comes to decor.

My hubby is minimalist and I am a que sera sera babe §;-) I mean, swayed to all things beautiful.

If I found that harvest bucket? I wont have a second thoughts. I grab and bring that home too.

So smart to keep you things in place. and the wood blend so well with the white.

Happy mid-week.

Very pretty! I like both looks but then I love pillows in whites and fluffy white towels. We have a similar dresser in our bedroom that is pine and patiently waiting to be painted white.

Hello,
I visited your blog today - I saw you on 'Glass Slippers and all Sorts of Stuff.' Your blog is so lovely. While I was scrolling down, I noticed the post about New Year Intentions and saw the flowers. I smiled because this year I decided to buy myself more flowers, and I recently did a post about it. Me and my daughters started a blog, and we would love it if you could visit us and follow. I would enjoy coming back to visit with you. Your blog is so cheerful to me. I hope to hear from you, and have a lovely weekend.

You've created a respite of calm and uncluttered peace among the noise and calamity of city life! What a beautiful vignette! Keep going with your vision of a Nordic farmhouse in the city. You're on the right track! :)

I know what you mean about loving two distinct styles...me too...but I have the perfect solution...a second home...in my dreams. I do love your little harvest basket and when an accent also has a practical purpose like you basket it's a keeper. Thanks for your recent visit to FK...I hope you return often. Have a great Sunday.

I love the basket....but really matters is that you like it. You can be both a little bit country and little bit city...I think we all have tugs in both directions...at least I do. I'm a new follower.

I also want to let you know that I have a link party every week that kicks off on Wednesday mornings. Would love to have you join in.
