Blogmas Day Nine Purdy's Chocolates

Welcome to Blogmas Day Nine!  There is no doubt that the Holiday Season is coupled with lashings and lashings of chocolate.  I've spoken about my love for Purdy's Chocolates here and here but I truly adore this Canadian chocolate company.  I made sure to pick up a box of my favourite, Sweet Georgia Browns, before the second lockdown as the Purdy's stall nearest to me is inside a mall and doesn't have a street presence.  I just wasn't sure how they would manage curbside pickup and didn't want to take the chance of not having my favourite chocolates during the holidays.  Yes, I know, I am that much of a dedicated fan.

The sweetness of the caramel and chocolate balanced against the contrasting textures of the pecans and gooeyness of the caramel is an unparalleled delight.

I spotted this box of matcha chocolate balls which I thought would be a perfect stocking stuffer for someone I know who is obsessed with matcha tea.  You can also get the boxes of chocolate prewrapped which is a real timesaver.

Luckily Purdy's is also available online for those of you who weren't able to stock up before lockdown or are still in lockdown.  Considering how delivery times are anyone's guess nowadays, I would suggest putting in your orders soon.

I do think that taking the time to indulge in something luscious and decadent with a steaming mug of your favourite tea or coffee is practically a necessity now as a way of combating the stresses of our lives.

LBH Weekly Roundup: Wamsutta Bed Linens and Purdys Chocolates for Father's Day

Time for another Weekly Roundup!  I had to buy new bedlinens this week.  I had a set of bamboo sheets on the bed.  I remember being very excited about switching to bamboo as it is touted as being a sound environmental alternative to cotton.  Sadly, it just was not durable. The stitching unraveled on the pillowcases and a threadbare spot the length of my legs appeared.  It was almost as if the fabric was dissolving.  I loved how silky soft it was but its inability to stand up to ordinary usage was disappointing.  So it is back to good old Wamsutta, a label that I know and trust.  It was a little startling to go back to cotton as the new sheets are quite crisp to the touch, especially when you have been sleeping on bamboo sheets for a while.  Do you have bamboo sheets and what has been your experience?

Today is Father's Day!  Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there.  Monsieur got a box of Purdys Chocolates, his absolute favourite.  It amuses me greatly that it has "Dad's Stash" printed on the lid.  To be honest, I was greatly tempted to sneak a taste as I love the Hedgehogs and the Peanut Butter bars.  Monsieur actually accused me of helping myself (notice the gap at the top right hand corner) but I promise that is exactly how the box was packaged!

Mother's Day Gift Guide 2017

As has become increasingly more common these days, I come from a blended family.  This means that I have a mother and a stepmother to contend with when Mother's Day rolls around.  Eek!  Pretending that I am Switzerland, neutral territory, doesn't work.  Believe me, I have tried.  Having not one but two maternal figures to placate means that oftentimes, I end up completely out of ideas.  If you tend to come up empty as well, here is a mini gift guide to help you out.
I thought I'd start with the "traditional" categories of Mother's Day gifts and try to extract some fairy magic out of them.  Fragrance is one of these categories.  You can't go wrong with Chanel No 5, a classic that has stood the test of time.

I am willing to bet that anything that bears the famous double "C" logo will win over the heart of any grande dame in your life but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
The next traditional category is a bouquet of flowers.  But let's face it, while a bunch of flowers will always hit the mark, they fade and eventually get tossed out.  So why not up the ante by giving a green wall?

I am obsessed with Urbio's genius green wall.  The pockets come in different sizes and adhere to the wall plate via magnets.  This means that they can be easily moved around to create personalized arrangements.
And the last traditional category is chocolates.  I have to give a shout out to Canadian chocolatier, Purdys Chocolates.

They are best known for their Sweet Georgia Browns which treads that mouthwatering balance between the saltiness of the pecans and the sweet creaminess of chocolate and caramel but, in my book, their Hedgehogs with their luscious hazelnut gianduja filling comes a close second.  I hope this gift guide has given some ideas.  If you have any suggestions to add to the list, please comment away!
Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there!
